This page is dedicated to the memory of Gib Hochstrasser, the first elected president of the Idaho Jazz Society, and a leader in Big Band jazz in Idaho for many years.
Tim Woodward, in his article in the Idaho Statesman (September 24, 2008) rightly lamented that there is "no public memorial to Gib Hochstrasser in the city where he spent his life and became its most beloved band leader". Woodward went on to suggest several possiblities for a memorial, and the Idaho Jazz Society has agreed to take the lead in this. Our first step has been to create a special memorial fund.
A special fund-raising concert was held December 7, 2008, and was a HUGE success. Emily Braden, featured artist, dazzled a sold-out crowd with her amazing arrangements of well-known standards as well as her original songs.
Details of the memorial plans will be posted as soon as they are finalized. If you would still like to make a donation to this memorial fund, please make your check payable to Idaho Jazz Society, and indicate Gib Memorial on the memo line. You will simplify our Treasurer's job if you make this a unique check, and not part of your regular IJS donations. Note that the Idaho Jazz Society is a 501C3 charitable tax organization.
